If you got a new console this year, or unwrapped a slightly smaller package with a Nintendo 3DS or a PlayStation Vita, what you need next is to find something to play. Killer Instinct is a reboot of an arcade classic, and it manages to capture the same feeling as the original, despite being released nearly two decades later. Forza Motorsport 5 is the game you buy to show off your shiny new Xbox One.

Microsoft doesn?t exactly need any more negative publicity for the Xbox One, which is why the company was eager to quash rumors that it would start charging more for games on its next-generation console. A Microsoft representative told Polygon late last week that it will sell new Xbox One games for $60 each, the same price that it charges for Xbox 360 games and the same price that Sony will charge for games on the PlayStation 4. The Xbox One has generated quite a bit of controversy in the gaming community for its connectivity and used games policies, and it has also been criticized for being $100 more expensive than the Playstation 4 because of the mandatory inclusion of its next-generation

Nintendo?s newest portable gaming console may be ugly but at least it?s cheap. The Japanese gaming company announced on Wednesday that it will start selling its new Nintendo 2DS portable console on October 12th for a rock-bottom price of just $129.99. Nintendo says the console will play all Nintendo 3DS games in 2D and that it has been ?designed specifically for anyone looking for a more affordable entry point into the world of Nintendo hand-held video games.? While releasing a cheaper portable console is certainly a smart move on Nintendo?s part, the fact that the new console cannot be folded and is aesthetically rather unappetizing may make it a tough sell. Even though NVIDIA was passed over for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the company?s senior vice president, Toni Temasi, is excited for Sony and Microsoft?s next-generation consoles. Both gaming systems, and even Nintendo?s Wii U, are powered by hardware designed by rival chipmaker AMD. But Temasi said that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have helped close the performance gap between PC and console gaming, The Verge reported. The executive noted that the company?s $1,000 GeForce GTX Titan graphics card is roughly two and a half times more powerful than the PlayStation 4, compared to 13-times more powerful than the PlayStation 3. He believes that the new consoles will help ?raise the bar? for PC gaming, adding that developers will no

There's one thing we can be certain about with next-gen consoles: they can make games look very, very good. I've seen games running on both consoles, and they're beautiful. But that has been true for previous console generations, and I'd argue that it isn't the most important thing the new hardware will do. The real question is: beyond looking prettier, how will the Playstation 4 and Xbox One actually change the games we play?

The global video gaming market is set to grow 11.1 percent a year until 2017, boosted by a new generation of consoles and the increasing popularity of online games, according to IDATE digital research and consultancy firm. Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft, which are jostling for control of the gaming market, have each released the latest versions of their consoles ahead of the Christmas shopping season. The wave of new devices is expected to keep the market buoyant until 2017, IDATE said. Home consoles like Sony's PlayStation or Microsoft's Xbox, which make up 31 percent of the market today, are expected to have a 40 percent share of the total market in 2017.

Publishers and consumers are both in a tricky spot this video game release season. The Xbox One and Playstation 4 are the most exciting things that have happened in console gaming in years, at least as pieces of hardware. But the install bases of current-gen hardware will dwarf next-gen, and so any developer looking to break even on a AAA title like an Assassin's Creed or a Call of Duty needs to put out games that straddle all four major consoles. Hence, you'll be able to play nearly all of the biggest games whether you decide to make the console jump or not.

You won?t be performing Dragon Shouts on your Wii U anytime soon. Joystiq reports that Bethesda, the developer behind smash-hit games such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 3, has no plans to release any games for Nintendo?s newest console at the moment and all of its announced upcoming games will release only for the PC, the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One. This isn?t as big a deal for Nintendo as you might think because neither Skyrim nor Fallout 3 ever released on the original Wii. All the same, Nintendo could really use a lot more help from developers on the Wii U, especially since game publishing giant EA has announced it has no plans to bring

Information surrounding Microsoft?s (MSFT) next-generation Xbox leaked earlier this week and suggested that the system will require an always-on Internet connection. The report also reinforced earlier rumors that claimed Microsoft?s new console would be unable to play used games. Speaking to Bloomberg on Friday, GameStop (GME) spokesman Matt Hodges cited a company survey that found consumers would be less likely to buy a console that limits trading in pre-owned games. ?We know the desire to purchase a next-generation console would be significantly diminished if new consoles were to prohibit playing pre-owned games, limit portability or not play new physical games,? Hodges said. Microsoft is expected to unveil its next-generation Xbox at the E3 gaming conference this summer. The console is

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has very strong feelings about developers so it?s no surprise that the company is placing an emphasis on drawing more independent developers to its Xbox One gaming console. Microsoft on Tuesday unveiled its new ID@Xbox program that aims to let ?qualified game developers of all sizes to unleash their creativity by self-publishing digital games on Xbox One.? Developers interested in publishing games on the new console simply have to sign up to become registered developers and then Microsoft will give them access to the Xbox One development kits. Microsoft says that it?s looking for game companies ?with a proven track record? of shipping games for PCs, consoles and mobile devices for the early phase of the
