Review: 'Super Marios' gets multiplayer makeover (AP)

Date: Mon, 16. November 2009 13:02:39
AP - Even before it refined family fun with the Wii, Nintendo was dedicated to creating satisfying multiplayer experiences. Games like Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. and GoldenEye 007 encouraged everyone to join in, and you missed the real action if you played them alone.

Atari Sub-Sub-Contractor Used ScummVM For Wii Game

Date: Thu, 25. June 2009 03:29:50
MBCook writes "In several recent releases, it seems that Atari published games for the Wii based on ScummVM, which was released under the GPL. Atari contracted Majesco, who contracted a company named Mistic Software with offices in the Ukraine. When the fact that the GPL was being violated was brought to Atari's attention, they were kind at first until it was discovered that Nintendo doesn't allow open source software to be used with the Wii SDK, so updated documentation mentioning the GPL wasn't an available solution. So, what happens to the games? 'There is a period of time in which all current copies have to be sold. Any copies beyond this period or any reprints get fined with quite high fine for each new/remaining copy. The remaining stock has to be destoryed [sic].' Atari and Majesco seem to have been very cooperative about this whole thing, but had their hands tied by the agreement with Nintendo."pa href="http://games.slashdot.org/story/09/06/24/1449254/Atari-Sub-Sub-Contractor-Used-ScummVM-For-Wii-Game?from=rss"img src="http://slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?from=rssamp;op=imageamp;style=h0amp;sid=09/06/24/1449254"/a/ppa href="http://games.slashdot.org/story/09/06/24/1449254/Atari-Sub-Sub-Contractor-Used-ScummVM-For-Wii-Game?from=rss"Read more of this story/a at Slashdot./p pa href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/ZBvnMiEfLhfJ6GKyrYI-y-t4TpM/0/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/ZBvnMiEfLhfJ6GKyrYI-y-t4TpM/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/abr/ a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/ZBvnMiEfLhfJ6GKyrYI-y-t4TpM/1/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/ZBvnMiEfLhfJ6GKyrYI-y-t4TpM/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/a/pimg src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Slashdot/slashdot/~4/WdAOc4Af--0" height="1" width="1"/

Date: Thu, 14. August 2008 03:05:59
walshy007 writes "After Shigeru Miyamoto developed a love of puzzles, the "brain-training" software that has proved to be an international "killer application" on the Nintendo DS console was born. He became interested in taking more exercise, and Wii Fit was created. He took up music lessons, and Wii Music was the result. Now, according to sources at Nintendo, the games designer has been banned by the company from speaking publicly about his hobbies."Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Nintendo and the Windows Mindset

Date: Tue, 30. September 2008 21:58:28
Games intended for the Nintendo Wii shouldn't show any Windows programming influences at all - but many do. The Tiger Woods PGA golf game, for example, takes five steps to load or shutdown - and four of those are Windows style redundant pop-ups.

Microsoft Disconnects Modded Xbox Users

Date: Thu, 12. November 2009 03:27:04
S-4'N3 writes "The BBC reports that Microsoft has disconnected approximately 600,000 Xbox users from Xbox Live because the devices they are using have been modified, either with software or with new chips, to play pirated games. 'Microsoft confirmed that it had banned a "small percentage" of the 20 million Xbox Live users worldwide. Microsoft said that modifying an Xbox 360 console 'violates' the service's 'terms of use' and would result in a player being disconnected.'"pa href="http://games.slashdot.org/story/09/11/11/1821255/Microsoft-Disconnects-Modded-Xbox-Users?from=rss"img src="http://slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?from=rssamp;op=imageamp;style=h0amp;sid=09/11/11/1821255"/a/ppa href="http://games.slashdot.org/story/09/11/11/1821255/Microsoft-Disconnects-Modded-Xbox-Users?from=rss"Read more of this story/a at Slashdot./p pa href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/emdk_eEUyEtLccGz2zzflWkkh1E/0/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/emdk_eEUyEtLccGz2zzflWkkh1E/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/abr/ a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/emdk_eEUyEtLccGz2zzflWkkh1E/1/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/emdk_eEUyEtLccGz2zzflWkkh1E/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/a/pimg src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Slashdot/slashdot/~4/k7nrGBSnauI" height="1" width="1"/
